Yield to the Panopticon

Posted in dear diarrhea by Marcus Del Greco on December 6th, 2006

This story about outing meth offenders is bound to snowball into every drug offense, and in turn, into internet directories covering all past criminal convictions:

Ought to be interesting.  I look forward to seeing my own “youthful indiscretions” online.  Other parents in my town can more easily decide whether to let their kids hang out with mine.  That way I don’t waste time trying to earn the trust and respect of my commmunity… an overvalued commodity at any rate.

the outward appearance of respect is a valueless commodity. better to live authentically
and have the respect of those who value such things, warts and all, than to live in
stepford. as for trust, the only people i trust, i’ve known for 12 to 20 years or i was
in the middle of combat with them. short list, indeed.

Panopticons? Aren’t those the race of evil Speak-and-Spell based robots that Optimus Prime fought against in the fourth Cybertronian war?
